Destination management settings

In gas, destination management is the record of the tourism area your customer account belongs to. Based on it, gas knows which statistical data to load into the Tourism data section and which markers identify your social media posts and your ad campaigns. On the Settings → Customer account → Destination management page you can see what is assigned to your account and you can edit the name and two markers. The link to a region, area or municipality and the Czech Statistical Office codes are set by us.

Before you start

  • The Customer account section can only be opened by a user account with the Administrator role. Other roles will see a red warning after opening it: "You do not have sufficient permissions to edit the customer account."
  • The customer account must have the tourism module active, specifically the Destination management tourism data plan item. Without it, the Destination management item is not offered in the left column at all.
  • The link to a region, tourism area or municipality is created by us when the account is set up. It cannot be switched in the application.

The details on this page are not cosmetic. They affect which numbers you see across the whole Tourism data section and which posts and campaigns are counted into your overviews. That is why the application only allows one change per destination management every 24 hours. Before you overwrite a field, make sure you know what you expect from the change.

In gas, a customer account is linked to one of three levels, or to several of them at once:

  • Region: the account gets data for the whole region. It also gains access to the destination management companies in that region and the municipalities that belong to them.
  • Destination management, that is the tourism area: the account gets data for this area plus the municipalities that fall under it.
  • Municipality: the account gets data for a single municipality.

Depending on what your account is linked to, gas offers a level switch in the Tourism data section with the values Region, Destination management and Municipality. When only one level is linked, the switch is not shown and the data is displayed for that level directly.

The link cannot be changed in the application. If you need to add another area, remove one or cancel the link entirely, write to your sales representative or through the contact form.

What is on the page

Each assigned destination management has its own card with the area name in its header. If your account has several areas assigned, you will see several cards below each other and you edit each of them separately.

Destination management name

Text of 3 to 120 characters. The area appears under this name across the whole application: in the switch in Tourism data, on the map, in destination comparison and in PDF reports. Changing the name is only a label, it has no effect on the loaded numbers.

Public social media post marker

The hashtag you use to mark your own social media posts. It applies to profiles that have the Filtering by destination option turned on in Settings → Linked accounts. For such a profile, gas lists and counts only the posts whose text contains this hashtag. Profiles without this option stay unchanged and show all posts.

Write the marker without the hash sign, the application adds it itself. Letters without diacritics, digits and the underscore are allowed, 1 to 29 characters in total. Czech characters such as č, ř or ž are not allowed, the form will reject them.

Ad campaign marker

The hashtag you use in ad campaign names to distinguish your destination's campaigns. It applies to ad accounts that have the Agency account option turned on in Settings → Linked accounts, that is accounts running campaigns for several advertisers. For those, gas counts only the campaigns whose name contains this marker. The same writing rules apply as for the post marker.

Czech Statistical Office code lists for tourism areas

This part of the card is read-only. A code list is a numbered list maintained by the Czech Statistical Office. Tourism areas are recorded in it in two ways and gas shows both for every destination management:

  • No. 627 (undivided DMO), kept by the statistical office as an undivided tourism area. The area is recorded here as a single whole, even if it reaches into several regions.
  • No. 628 (divided DMO), kept by the statistical office as a divided tourism area. The same area is split here into parts by region and each part has its own code.

For both rows you can see the code number and the name under which the statistical office keeps the area. A dash means your area is not recorded in that code list.

Example: an area that lies in two regions has one code in code list 627 for the whole area and two codes in code list 628, one for each regional part.

The difference shows in the numbers. If the card has a code filled in for code list 628, gas loads statistics exactly for that part of the area. If only the code for code list 627 is filled in, gas adds up data from all regional parts and shows the area as a whole.

The codes cannot be edited in the application. That is why there is a notice below the cards, Change of Czech Statistical Office details, with an info@gas-online.cz button. You can also write to us through the contact form. Write to us whether you want the area kept as undivided or as divided and we will rewrite the code for you.

Procedure: editing the name and markers

  1. In the main menu open Settings and on the Customer account card click Go to.
  2. In the left column select Destination management. On a mobile there is a drop-down menu above the content instead of the column.
  3. Find the card of the area you want to edit. For a moment after opening, the message "Loading destination management companies…" is shown.
  4. Overwrite the Destination management name, Public social media post marker or Ad campaign marker. The form reports errors right below the field.
  5. Click Save changes. The button is only active when something in the card has actually been changed.
  6. You will recognise success by the green Saved notification with the text that the destination management has been updated. The name in the card header changes to the new value.

The change is only possible once every 24 hours

Right after saving, the card locks for 24 hours. You will recognise it as follows:

  • all three fields turn grey and cannot be typed in,
  • the Save changes button cannot be pressed,
  • yellow text "Change possible again" appears below the button, followed by the time when the period expires (for example "in 21 hours").

If the save is submitted anyway, for example because you had the page open from the previous day and the details were changed on another device in the meantime, the application rejects the save. It shows the yellow notification "The change cannot be saved now" with the text "A change is possible only once every 24 hours from the last edit." and immediately reloads the current state of the card.

The period runs separately for each destination management. If you have several areas assigned, saving one card does not lock the other cards. The period is counted from the last saved edit, not from midnight, and it cannot be shortened.

The reason for the limit is practical: gas evaluates the post and campaign markers every time data is displayed, so changing them redraws the numbers retroactively for the whole history. The daily limit prevents overviews from changing several times a day with no way to trace what earlier numbers were calculated from.

What happens next

  • The name is written immediately into all the places where the destination is listed: into the switch in Tourism data, into the map, into destination comparison and into newly generated reports. PDF reports that have already been created keep the original name.
  • The post and campaign markers take effect the next time a page with data is loaded. Because gas compares posts and campaigns against the currently set marker, numbers for older periods change as well.
  • Statistical data from the Czech Statistical Office is not affected by a change of the name or the markers at all. It is governed solely by the codes in code lists 627 and 628.

You can verify the result in the Tourism data section: in the top bar switch the level to Destination management and select your area.

Common problems

I cannot see the Destination management item in the settings

The item is only offered in the left column to customer accounts with an active tourism module. If the module is not active yet, the item is missing. Activation is handled by a sales representative, you can also write through the contact form.

Instead of the form there is a Feature not available message

This is the same situation as the previous one, you have just reached the page directly through a link. The message says the module can be activated through a sales representative and that you should contact our team for activation. Until the module is active, the form is not shown.

I cannot open the Customer account section at all

The Go to button on the Customer account card is only active for the Administrator role. Other roles will see a notice about insufficient permissions after opening the section. Your role can be changed by another Administrator of your customer account in Settings → Customer account → Users.

The page says no destination management companies are assigned

The module is active, but no area is linked to the account yet. The link is created by us, it cannot be created in the application. Write to your sales representative or through the contact form telling us which tourism area it is.

The fields are grey and cannot be typed in

The card is within the 24-hour period after the last edit. Below the button you will see the text "Change possible again" and the time when the period expires. Until then the fields stay locked, including for another Administrator of the same customer account.

The Save changes button cannot be pressed

Either the 24-hour period from the previous point applies, or nothing in the card has been changed yet. The button unlocks as soon as the current content of a field differs from the saved value. Note that an extra space at the end of the text is not considered a change.

Saving ended with an Invalid values message

The text of the message sends you to check the filled-in fields. The most common causes: the name is shorter than three characters or longer than 120 characters, or the marker contains a space, diacritics, a hyphen or another character outside letters without diacritics, digits and the underscore. Adjust the field according to the error shown below it and save again.

After saving, the numbers in Tourism data have not changed

Statistical visitor data is governed by the Czech Statistical Office codes, not by the name or the markers. Changing the name or the hashtag does not change these numbers. The marker affects post counts and ad campaign data, and only for profiles with the Filtering by destination option and for ad accounts marked as Agency account. If none of your profiles has this option turned on, the hashtag is not applied anywhere.

There is a dash in one of the rows of the Czech Statistical Office code lists

A dash means the area has no code assigned in that code list. This is common for areas kept only as undivided, which have only row 627 filled in. If both rows are empty, gas has nowhere to load statistics for the area from, so get in touch with us through the contact form.

The numbers match a different territory than I expect

This is typically a mix-up between divided and undivided records. When the area has code 628 filled in, data is shown only for the part of the area in one region. When only code 627 is filled in, parts from all regions are added together. Which way is correct for you depends on the territory you want to report for. The switch between code lists 627 and 628 is set by us, write to us through the contact form telling us which variant you need.

The Municipality or Region level is missing in Tourism data

The list of levels follows what your customer account is linked to and what it has in its plan. The Municipality level is moreover only offered in the Data overview, while destination comparison and reports work with the region and the destination management. If a level is missing and you think you should be entitled to it, get in touch with us.

Tourism data says you have no access to any destination management or region

This message appears when no area, region or municipality is linked to the account and the application returns you to the dashboard. The solution is the same as for an empty list of destination management companies: write to us telling us which area we should assign you to.

I have forgotten which hashtag we chose

Besides this page, you can also find the current marker in the destination management detail in the Tourism data section, where it is listed as a tag next to the region name and the number of municipalities. You get to the detail by clicking the destination name in destination comparison.
