You can add your own logo to the reports that gas generates. It appears on the cover page of the finished report and, depending on the settings of the individual report, also in the header and footer of every page. The logo is uploaded once for the whole customer account and is used in all reports created afterwards.
Before you start
You need three things:
- The Administrator role in the customer account. Only users with this role can open the Customer account section. With the User or Viewer role, gas shows a message saying that you do not have sufficient permissions to edit the customer account instead of the settings.
- A logo in SVG format. gas does not accept any other image format.
- A file no larger than 500 KB.
What the SVG format means. An ordinary photo or an image from a website (extension .jpg, .png) is made up of individual coloured dots, so when you enlarge it, it goes blurry. Instead of dots, an SVG file describes the drawing itself, that is the shapes, lines and colours the logo is made of. Thanks to that it stays sharp at any size, which matters in a printed report. You can recognise it by the .svg extension at the end of the file name.
When you do not have the logo in SVG. A vector version of the logo usually exists, you just do not have it at hand: it is created when the logo is designed and it is normally part of the brand manual. Write to your designer, agency or whoever created your logo and ask for "the logo in vector form, in SVG format". If you have nobody like that, contact your consultant or write through the contact form. Automatic conversion of a JPG or PNG image to SVG is not reliable, the result is usually blurry or jagged.
Renaming a file from .png to .svg is not enough. When you upload the file, gas looks inside it and rejects an image renamed this way.
Uploading the logo
- In the left menu (in the bottom bar on a phone) open Settings.
- On the Customer account card click the I want to set up button.
- In the menu on the left choose Print settings. On a phone there is a drop-down list above the content instead of the menu.
- Under the heading Customer account logo there is a box with a preview. Until you upload a logo, it contains the text No logo.
- Click Upload logo. A window opens for choosing a file from your device and offers SVG files.
- Select the file with the logo and confirm your choice.
- Wait for the logo to be saved. A spinner turns on the button while that happens. There is no Save button here, saving happens on its own.
You will know it is done when the logo appears in the preview box, the button label changes to Change logo and a red Remove logo button appears next to it. The chequered background of the preview is not part of the logo, it shows the transparent areas.
Monochrome logo
Once the logo is uploaded, a Monochrome logo checkbox appears below the buttons. When you tick it, gas replaces all the colours of the logo in reports with a single colour and picks it according to the place: dark in the header and footer of the pages, white on the dark cover page. The choice is saved right after you click, you do not confirm it anywhere.
It comes in handy in two situations:
- the logo is monochrome itself (a black drawing, for example) and would disappear on the dark cover page,
- a colour logo does not work with the dark background of the cover page.
gas places a colour logo on a white pad on the cover page so that it is legible on the dark background. A monochrome logo does not get a pad, instead it is recoloured entirely to white.
Changing and removing the logo
- Open Settings → Customer account → Print settings.
- If you want to swap the logo, click Change logo and select a new file. The new logo replaces the original one.
- If you want to remove the logo, click the red Remove logo.
Removal happens immediately and gas does not ask for confirmation. After removal, No logo appears in the preview again and the Monochrome logo tick is cleared. Reports generated afterwards will be without a logo. Undoing this means uploading the file again, so keep it at hand.
Where exactly the logo appears
The logo is used in the reports that gas generates as PDF:
- The cover page of the report. The logo is at the top above the name of the customer account and it always appears when a logo is uploaded.
- The header of every report page. It appears if Show logo in header is ticked in the report settings. It is ticked for newly created reports.
- The footer of every report page. It appears if Show logo in footer is ticked. That is not ticked for newly created reports.
You will find both checkboxes when editing a report, on the Layout settings card, in the Header and Footer parts. In the header and the footer your logo stands next to the gas mark and is reduced to the height of the line, on the cover page it is considerably larger.
The logo is not used on the application screens. If you print a page straight from the browser, it will not be on the printout, it belongs only in generated reports.
The same logo panel is also available when editing a report, right below the header and footer settings, under the heading Customer account logo. It is not a setting for a single report but the same setting for the whole customer account, and gas points this out there: a change of the logo takes effect in all reports.
What happens to reports that already exist
A report takes the logo at the moment it is generated. Finished PDFs in Reports → Archive therefore stay exactly as they were created, and a new logo is not added to them retroactively.
When you need an older report with the new logo, have it generated again:
- for a one-off report with the Generate report button in its settings,
- for a recurring report the new logo is used automatically at the next scheduled run.
Common problems when uploading the logo
A message about permissions appears instead of the print settings
You do not have the Administrator role in this customer account. Ask an administrator to upload the logo. You can check your role in Settings → User profile → Customer accounts in the Role column.
The message Invalid file format. Upload a file in SVG format
The selected file is not an SVG, or it only pretends to be one (typically a renamed photo or image). Ask for a vector version of the logo and upload it again.
The message The file is too large. The maximum size is 500 KB
Most often the logo has a photograph embedded in it or a very complex drawing. Ask your designer for a lighter version, that is a clean SVG without embedded photographs.
The message The logo could not be uploaded. Try again
Saving failed. Try the action once more. If the message keeps coming back, the problem will be in the content of the file: when saving, gas strips out of the logo everything that is not the drawing itself, that is scripts, links to other websites and embedded external content. If no drawing is left in the file after this clean-up, the logo cannot be saved and you need a clean vector version.
The message The logo could not be removed. Try again
Repeat the action. If the message persists, reload the page in your browser and try once more.
Common problems with the logo in a report
I can see the logo in the preview, but it is missing from the report
There are three possibilities: the report was created before you uploaded the logo (see the previous section), the report settings do not have the logo display ticked for either the header or the footer (the cover page always shows the logo), or you are looking at a report that is still running.
The logo is almost invisible in the report
Typically this is a white or very light logo on a light header. Tick Monochrome logo and gas will then recolour it to dark in the header and footer and to white on the cover page.
The logo looks different in the preview than in the report
With the Monochrome logo option the preview shows the logo in black, whereas in the report it will be dark grey in the header and footer and white on the cover page. The difference is made by the background the logo sits on.
The logo is very small in the header
In the header and footer the logo is reduced to the height of the line so that it fits next to the text. A landscape logo, that is wider than it is tall, therefore looks best in this place. A tall, narrow logo is reduced more. On the cover page it is displayed considerably larger.
We have a light and a dark version of the logo, can both be uploaded?
Only one logo can be uploaded. The Monochrome logo option is there for the different backgrounds of the cover page and the header.
Common problems with the scope of the setting
I uploaded a logo, but it does not appear for my second client
The logo belongs to one customer account. If you work with several accounts, switch to the other one in the top right corner and upload the logo there as well.
A colleague changed the logo without going into the customer account settings
The logo panel is also in the report settings, so anyone editing a report can change it too. The change always applies to the whole customer account and to all its reports.
I can see Print settings, but I do not have Reports in the menu
The logo setting is always available, the reports themselves are part of the subscription. Without the Reports module there is nowhere for the logo to appear. To extend your subscription, ask your consultant or write through the contact form.
