Sklik is the advertising system of the Seznam.cz search engine. Once you link it with gas, you see spend, reach, clicks, conversions and the average position of your campaigns in one place, and you can compare them with other networks over the same period.
Linking Sklik works differently from other platforms. With Facebook or Google, gas redirects you to the login page of the service. With Sklik nothing is redirected: you generate a token in the Sklik administration (a long access code that replaces logging in) and paste it into gas.
Linking always has two stages. First you link the service, which gives gas access to the data, and then you decide which customer accounts the data should be shown to. With Sklik both stages happen in a single form, because you fill in the token and the customer accounts at the same time.
Before you start
Advertising sections are not part of the basic plan. If you do not see Sklik in the left menu or among the connected services, your customer account does not have this feature enabled in its plan. Ask the administrator of the customer account to upgrade the plan.
You need the Administrator or User role. A Viewer cannot link accounts.
You need access to the Sklik administration for the account whose campaigns you want to track. Only someone who logs into the account directly, that is with their own email address and password, can generate an API key in it. Anyone who only impersonates the account, for example as the administrator of a parent account, will not see the option to generate a key in Sklik at all. So if you do not manage this account, ask its owner for the token. gas never sees your Seznam password and you never enter it anywhere.
Before you start linking, talk to the administrator of the customer account. In Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts they can see what is already connected and who connected it, so they can tell you whether a new link is needed at all.
Where to get the token in Sklik
What gas calls a token, Sklik calls an API key. It is a long code that stands in for logging into the account: gas uses it to sign in to Sklik instead of you, without knowing your password. Sklik issues it directly in the ad account settings.
- Log in to the Sklik administration at sklik.cz. You can also use the Get token button, which is right in the linking form in gas and opens the Sklik settings in a new browser tab.
- Open the Account settings section.
- At the bottom of it, find the card for API access. Sklik offers two interfaces and gas uses the older one, called Drak, so you need the key from the Drak API access section.
- Have the token generated and copy all of it, from the first to the last character. It is a long string and it is easy to make a mistake when retyping it by hand.
The Drak API key has no fixed validity period. According to the Sklik help, every newly generated key is valid until you have another one generated, which automatically invalidates the previous one. So Sklik always keeps only one valid key for the whole account. If somebody on the team has it generated again, for example for another tool, the one pasted into gas immediately stops working and the connection is paused.
Treat the token like a password. Whoever has it can get to the data of your Sklik account. Do not send it by email or chat to anyone who does not really need it.
How to link the account in gas
- Open Settings → Connected services.
- On the dashboard, click the Sklik tile.
- If you do not have any Sklik account linked yet, you will see the message "You have no Sklik account linked." with the Add Sklik account button. If you already have an account linked, you will find the same button above the table.
- The Link Sklik account window opens.
- In the Account name field, type the name you want to see the account under in gas. You can leave the field empty, in which case the name from the Sklik account is used.
- In the Token field, paste the token copied from the Sklik administration.
- Tick the Agency account option only if you run campaigns for several customers under this account. The data is then filtered by the tags set on the campaigns in gas. In all other cases, leave it unticked.
- In the Customer account assignment part, move the customer accounts that should see the Sklik data from the Accounts to select column to the Assigned accounts column. You have to select at least one.
- Click Connect account.
What happens next
gas confirms the link with the message "The Sklik account was linked successfully." and you will find the same message among your notifications under the bell.
The account appears in the Sklik accounts table. The Account column holds its name, the Agency account column shows whether you ticked that option, and if you have several customer accounts, the Customers column shows which of them the data is displayed to. Using the column selector you can also show the Last synchronisation column, which is hidden by default.
If you have regular reports that the new account can be added to, gas offers the Add profile to report? window right after linking. You can pick the reports and confirm with the Add to selected button, or decline the offer with Not now.
The data does not load immediately. After linking, gas schedules the first download, so you do not have to wait for the regular nightly update, but it takes a while. Sklik data is then updated once a day, so you will see yesterday's numbers the following day.
Once the data arrives, you will find it in the Sklik section in the left menu (overview, spend, reach, clicks, conversions, average position, campaigns and ad groups). A summary of everything connected to the customer account is in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts.
Common problems when linking the account
I cannot see the Sklik tile, or no customer account can be selected
For every customer account that cannot be moved in the selection, the reason is given:
- Feature not in plan: the customer account does not have the advertising sections paid for.
- No permission: you have the Viewer role in this customer account.
- Limit reached: the plan allows only a certain number of profiles per network and that number is full.
- Invalid licence: the subscription of the customer account is not in order.
In all cases the situation is handled by the administrator of the customer account in Settings → Customer account → Subscription.
The form cannot be submitted, the Token field reports an error
The token is a long string and gas will not accept a shorter value. The most common cause is incomplete copying. Go back to the Sklik administration and copy the whole token again. Also check that no space was added at the beginning or the end.
gas did not accept the token and reported an error
This means that gas could not sign in to Sklik with this token. The usual reasons:
- the token has meanwhile been invalidated or generated again in Sklik, so the old one stopped working,
- the token does not belong to the account you wanted to use it for,
- an extra character or a line break got into the token while copying.
Generate a new token in Sklik and try linking again. If even the new token does not go through, write through the contact form and state which Sklik account it concerns.
The account is already linked
One Sklik account can be linked in gas only once. If you try to add it a second time, gas will not complete the link and will warn you. Check the Sklik accounts list to see whether it is already there. If you do not see it there, somebody else on the team linked it, see the next paragraph.
Common problems with the owner of the link
I cannot see my Sklik in Connected services, but the data is in gas
This is the most frequent support question and it is a normal state. A service link belongs to the user account that created it, whereas the connected ad account belongs to the customer account. That is why in Settings → Connected services you only see your own links.
The complete overview is in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts. There you will find the Who links the account column with the email of the person the link belongs to. The email is a link, so you can write to them straight away.
If a colleague linked the account and the data is coming in, you do not have to do anything. There is no need to create a second link for the same account.
The Who links the account column shows Nobody
It means the account has no live link, so the row is highlighted as an error and the data has stopped being downloaded. The account has to be linked again: somebody on the team who has access to that Sklik account generates a token and goes through the procedure above.
The colleague who linked the account has left the company
This is the most common cause of suddenly missing data. As soon as the departed colleague loses access to Sklik or their account is cancelled, the link stops working, even though you still see the ad account in gas.
The solution is not to delete the account and create it again. The link is created again by an active colleague who has access to the Sklik account. This keeps the history and the settings, and the data starts coming in again. If gas reports that the account is already linked while you do this, write through the contact form and we will sort out taking over the Sklik account from the departed colleague for you.
The account shows the Paused label
It means gas can no longer sign in to Sklik with the stored token, so the data has stopped being downloaded. You also get the same information as a notification called "The Sklik connection has been paused". The notification states the date by which the link has to be restored, otherwise the related data will be deleted.
With Sklik, the link is not restored by logging in to the platform but by pasting a new token. Generate a new token in the Sklik administration and go through the linking procedure again. If gas reports that the account is already linked instead of success, or the Paused label does not disappear even after you paste a new token, write through the contact form so that we can finish the restoration for you. Do not delete any data in the meantime, it will be filled in after the restoration.
Common problems with data and account management
The Sklik data is a day behind
This is expected behaviour. Sklik is updated once a day, so today's numbers are not available during the day. The refresh button in the page header reloads what is already stored in gas, it does not start a new download from Sklik.
The numbers differ from the Sklik administration
Small differences are common and have two causes. The first is timing: Sklik first prepares the data for each day and only marks it as final once the recalculation is finished. While the recalculation is running, the numbers are preliminary and may still move. When Sklik is not sure about the validity of the data, it verifies it again and the recalculation is extended by several hours up to a day. gas always shows what Sklik provided at the last download, so the value for yesterday may still change slightly the next day. The second cause is usually settings: check that you have the same period and the same account selected in gas.
Conversions appear on different days than the ad spend
Sklik counts a conversion on the day it actually happened, not on the day the person clicked the ad. At the same time, it recognises a visitor who came through the ad for another 30 days after the click, which is how long the record stored in their browser stays valid. So for goods and services where people take longer to decide, the conversion appears on one of the later days and the spend for one particular day does not have to match the conversions reported on that same day. For this reason, evaluate campaigns over a longer period rather than day by day.
The account is marked as an agency account and the data looks empty
For an agency account, gas only shows the data that matches the tags set on the campaigns in gas. If you ticked the Agency account option by mistake, or you do not have the tags set up yet, the result will look empty. You can change the option directly in the Sklik accounts table: hover over the row, start editing, switch the tick and save the change.
I want to rename the account
The account name is changed directly in the Sklik accounts table. Start editing on the row, rewrite the name in the Account column and save the change. The name must have at least three characters. It only serves for orientation in gas, nothing changes in Sklik.
I want to unlink the account
In the Sklik accounts table, every row has a bin icon labelled Unlink account. This action can be carried out by the user account that created the link. gas asks for confirmation and warns you that the action can be reversed by linking the account again. Unlinking is not immediate deletion: the account is scheduled for deletion and for roughly a month it can be linked again without losing the history. After that period the data is removed permanently.
To remove the ad account from just one customer account (and keep it for the others), go to Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts. Only the administrator of the customer account may make this change.
I cannot see Sklik in the left menu
The Sklik section is displayed in the menu according to the plan of the customer account, not according to whether you have an account linked. If you do not see it, the customer account does not have the advertising sections in its plan. Also switch to the correct customer account using the switcher in the top bar, each one has its own connected accounts.
