First login

The login screen is the first thing you see in gas. There are two ways to log in: with your email and password, or through your Facebook, Google or Apple account. This article describes both routes, explains the question about trusting the browser that appears right after you log in, and sums up every situation in which logging in fails.

Before you start

  • A completed registration. A user account in gas starts from an email invitation, and you choose your password in the wizard that opens from that invitation. Until you finish the wizard, no login credentials exist. The procedure is described in the article Completing registration from an invitation.
  • The application address app.gas-online.cz. Open it in any ordinary browser on a computer, tablet or phone. Nothing needs to be installed.
  • One extra step for social network login. The Facebook, Google and Apple buttons only work for accounts that have this login method linked in advance in Settings → Profile → Password & access. What matters is not that you have an account on that platform, but that it is linked. How to set the link up is described below.

How to do it

Logging in with an email and password always works and it is the default way.

  1. Open app.gas-online.cz. A page headed Log in appears. On the left there is a form introduced by the text Log in with email, on the right three coloured buttons for logging in through social networks.
  2. In the username (email) field, type the email address to which your gas invitation was sent.
  3. In the password field, type the password you chose when you completed your registration.
  4. Click the Log in button.

Below the form there is an I forgot my password link, which you use when you cannot recall your password. It is described below in the Common problems section.

Logging in with Facebook, Google or Apple

On the right-hand side of the login page there are three buttons: Continue with Facebook, Continue with Google and Continue with Apple. They replace typing an email and password; instead of a password, your identity is confirmed by the platform you are already logged in to.

  1. Click the button for the account you want to use.
  2. The browser takes you to the Facebook, Google or Apple login page. If you are not logged in there, you enter your credentials. If you are logged in, you simply confirm that you want to continue.
  3. The platform returns you to gas and the Overview page opens straight away.

This login does not give gas access to your pages, profiles or ad accounts. It only verifies that it is really you. Connecting the pages and ad accounts that gas draws data from is a completely different matter and it is set up in Settings → Connected services.

When this login method is not linked yet

gas has to know in advance which Facebook, Google or Apple account belongs to your user account. Until that connection exists, social network login will not go through. What counts is the specific account on the platform, not the email address, so matching addresses on both sides will not help on their own.

You will recognise it because the platform returns you to the gas login page and a window titled Account not linked opens over it. It explains that this social network account is not linked to any user in the gas application and that social network login only works for accounts that are linked. The window has two buttons: Close and Log in and set up.

Set the link up like this:

  1. In the window, click Log in and set up and log in with your email and password. After you log in, gas takes you straight to the right settings page. (You can just as well close the window with the Close button, log in with your email and password and open Settings → Profile → Password & access manually.)
  2. On the Password & access page, scroll down to the Social network login section. It has three rows: Google, Meta (this is the name Facebook hides behind) and Apple. Each one has a Linked or Not linked label.
  3. On the row you want to use, click Link. The browser takes you to the platform's login page, where you confirm the login.
  4. When you come back, a green confirmation appears saying that the account is linked for login, and the row shows the Linked label.
  5. Sign out and try the relevant button on the login page. From now on it works.

One Facebook, Google or Apple account can be used to log in to only one user account in gas. If it is already used elsewhere, the link will fail and gas shows the message "This account is already linked to another user."

Do you trust this browser?

Right after you log in, a window with the question Do you trust this browser? opens over the application. It cannot be closed with a cross or by clicking outside it; the application stays covered until you pick one of the two answers. It is the last step of logging in, and gas asks every time you log in, including after a social network login.

The window explains how long the login lasts: "Your login will expire after one day. If you trust this device, you can stay logged in for up to 30 days." After a social network login the text is the same, it only starts with the words "Social network login expires after one day."

You have two buttons to choose from:

  • Yes, I trust it extends the login on this browser from one day to 30 days. For the whole of that time you will not have to log in again when you come back to gas.
  • No thanks keeps the validity at one day. The next day at the latest, gas will ask for your email and password (or you will need the social network button again).

Which option to use:

  • Your own computer, tablet or phone that no one else can access: choose Yes, I trust it. You will save yourself the daily login.
  • A shared or public device, that is a shared office computer, a computer at reception, in a hotel, in an internet café or a borrowed device: choose No thanks. The login then expires within a day at the latest and nobody can get into your account after you.

The question relates to a specific browser on a specific device, not to you as a person. When you log in on another computer or in another browser, gas asks again and you can answer differently.

If you are not sure, choose No thanks. You lose nothing by it, you will only log in more often on this device, and next time you log in you can answer differently.

For details about how long a login lasts, how to reverse your choice later and where to see the list of devices you are logged in from, see the separate article Trusted device and login duration in the Account and security category.

What happens next

After you log in and answer the question about trusting the browser, the Overview page opens, that is the main gas screen with a summary of the data of the selected customer account. If you came to gas from a link that required a login (typically a link to download a report from an email), gas takes you straight back to it.

In the top bar you see the name of the customer account whose data you are currently looking at. If you belong to several customer accounts, gas picks one for you and you can switch between them at any time. The next time you log in, gas returns to the one you used last.

A brand new user also gets a short tour of the application after the first login, showing where everything is. You can skip it at any time.

Common problems

The credentials you enter are not accepted

Check the three most common causes: the Caps Lock key being on, a switched keyboard layout (with a password containing accents or characters such as z and y), and an extra space that often gets copied into the fields from an email. Your login name is always the full email address to which the invitation was sent, not your first name and surname. If you leave a field empty, gas points it out right next to the field with the text "Please fill in the username (email)" or "Please fill in the password". If you are not sure about your password, set a new one right away as described in the next situation.

You cannot remember your password

You can set a new password yourself using the link below the login form.

  1. Click the I forgot my password link below the login form. The Forgot password page opens with an Email field and a Reset password button.
  2. After you submit it, a green message appears: "A password reset link has been sent to your email."
  3. The link in the email you receive takes you to a page where you set a new password (at least 8 characters, and both fields must match).

If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, check your junk mail folder and make sure you entered the same address that other messages from gas are sent to. The link has a limited validity; once it expires, ask for a new one.

Login fails even though you have an account from an invitation

Until you go through the wizard from the email invitation, the user account has no password and the login will fail even if you type the address correctly. Open the link from the invitation again and finish the wizard. If the link says it is no longer valid, ask for a new invitation from whoever set up your customer account, or from the administrator of your customer account. The whole procedure is described in the article Completing registration from an invitation.

Your social network email differs from the one in gas

That does not matter at all. gas does not compare email addresses; the only thing that counts is whether that account is linked as a login method in your profile. Once you have made the link (Settings → Profile → Password & access), login works regardless of which address is on which side. The reverse is also true: an identical address on both accounts does not enable login on its own, the link is always needed.

After logging in you are told the account has no access to any customer

Instead of the application you see the text "Your account does not have access to any customer." and the buttons Sign out and Delete account. The login itself went fine, your user account simply is not assigned to any customer account yet, so gas has nothing to show. This usually happens because nobody has granted you access yet, or because your access was removed. Ask the administrator of your customer account to invite you to the account. Only use the Delete account button if you deliberately do not want to use gas, because it starts the deletion of your user account.

Login fails even with the correct password

Your user account has most likely been deactivated. In that case a social network login ends with the same Account not linked window as with an unlinked account, even though you have the link in place. Contact the administrator of your customer account.

Social network login ends with an error message

A red warning appears on the login page, for example "Invalid login state. Please try again.", "Error verifying the account. Please try again." or "Server error during login. Please try again later." This is usually caused by too long a delay between clicking and completing the login at the platform, or by returning to a tab that has been open for a long time. Reload the login page (the F5 key) and try again. If the message keeps coming back, log in with your email and password for now.

After several failed attempts it stops working altogether

To protect accounts, gas watches how many login attempts come from one connection and for one username. After a larger number of failed attempts in a short time, it temporarily refuses further attempts, even if the password is now correct. Wait about a quarter of an hour and try again. In the meantime you can set a new password using I forgot my password.

gas logged you out on its own

A login has a limited validity: one day, or 30 days, depending on how you answered the question Do you trust this browser?. Once it expires, gas tells you that your login has expired and returns you to the login page. Please log in again. You are also logged out when you sign out of gas on another device using the log out from all devices option.

In that case a bar appears above the login form explaining why you are on the login page, for example "Please log in to download the report. The download will start automatically after you log in." For a link that has expired, the bar is orange and warns you that the link is no longer valid. You will then find the report in the Reports section after logging in.

After logging in, Settings opens instead of Overview

This means the customer account has no active subscription. gas shows a red Subscription status card with the text "No active subscription was found." and only lets you into the Settings section. Contact the administrator of your customer account or write through the contact form.

Where to go next

  • Trusted device and login duration (Account and security category): how long a login lasts, how to change your choice later and how to log out a specific device.
  • Finding your way around the interface (Getting started category): what you can find where in the application.
  • How connecting services works (Connecting services category): the first step, without which gas stays empty.
