First steps after logging in

The very first time you log in to gas, a short interactive tour of the interface starts. The screen dims and a light frame highlights, one place at a time, the areas you are reading about: the left menu, search, settings. At the same moment a floating Setup guide button appears in the bottom right corner, keeping track of which services you have already linked and what is still left.

Neither the tour nor the setup guide can be started again. Once you finish or skip the tour, it will not appear next time, and the same applies to the floating button. That is why this article describes their full content, so you can read it at any point later on.

Before you start

The tour and the floating guide are shown to the user account that was created by completing registration through an invitation link, so usually to whoever set up the customer account. A team member who joined an existing customer account later through an invitation will not see the tour or the floating button. If you saw nothing of the sort, you have not missed anything: the full content is described below.

The tour points to elements that are visible on a computer screen, for example the left menu or the search field in the top bar.

How to go through the tour

  1. The tour starts on its own, you do not have to open anything. In the white window you will see the name of the step, a short description and three bullet points with the most important information.
  2. At the top of the window there is an indicator in the form Step 1 of 10 and, below the text, a bar showing progress in percent. The total number of steps differs depending on what is available in your account.
  3. The Next button takes you to the following step, the Back button returns you to the previous one.
  4. Between steps the tour moves to other pages on its own (overview, settings, goals, campaigns). Do not click anywhere, just watch the highlighted area and the text in the window.
  5. The skip link in the bottom left corner of the window ends the tour at any time.
  6. In the last step, the Next button is replaced by Finish. That closes the tour and leaves you on the Overview page.

While the tour is running, the page under the dimmed layer is locked: you cannot scroll or click on elements of the application. The left menu expands automatically so that it is visible, and once the tour ends it returns to the state it was in before.

What the tour goes through

The steps follow this order. Two of them are shown only to some accounts, so it is noted when you will see them.

Welcome

The left menu is highlighted across the full height of the screen. It is the main gateway to all parts of gas: overview, individual networks, campaigns, goals, reports and settings. The step also says what comes next: first orientation in the menu and settings, then goals, campaigns and possibly the tourism module.

Pinning the menu

The button in the top right corner of the left menu is highlighted. With it you either pin the menu in place, so it stays open all the time, or leave it collapsible, so it only expands when you hover over it with the mouse. If you work in the application often, a pinned menu is usually more convenient. On smaller screens the collapsible mode saves space. You can change the setting at any time, the tour does not affect it.

Where to find your settings

The circle with your initials in the bottom left corner of the menu is highlighted. It opens the User profile, that is the settings that affect only your environment: name and email, password, active sessions, language, appearance, notifications and the default behaviour of graphs and tables. You will also find there a list of the customer accounts you have access to.

The Search pages and accounts... field in the top bar is highlighted. It is the fastest way to move to another page without clicking through the menu: it searches pages, settings, profiles and campaigns. Open it by clicking into the field or with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac), which is also shown in the hint next to the field.

Widgets on the Overview page

The three-dot button in the top right corner of the Overview page is highlighted. It hides three options:

  • Add widget inserts another tile with the metric or network you are interested in into the overview.
  • Edit layout switches on editing mode, in which tiles are moved with the mouse and resized. The control bar pins itself to the bottom edge of the screen and you end the mode with Exit editing.
  • Reset to default layout returns the overview to its original form.

Each tile also has its own three-dot menu in the top right corner, where you change the selected metric or switch between a graph and a value.

Customer account (administrators only)

This step is shown only if you are an administrator of the customer account. The Customer account card in Settings is highlighted. Behind it are the shared settings for the whole team: user accounts and their roles, subscription, linked accounts and other shared options. These are not the personal settings of one person, but settings that the whole customer account sees and uses. If the card is not active for you, you are not an administrator of this customer account.

Connected services

The Connected services card in Settings is highlighted. This is where linking social networks and advertising platforms begins. Without this step the application stays empty, because it has nowhere to take data from. The card leads to a dashboard with tiles for the individual platforms (Meta, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, Sklik). You will come back here later as well, whenever you add another network or ad account.

Setup guide

The floating button in the bottom right corner is highlighted. It continuously shows what is already linked and what is still left, and is described in a separate section below.

Goals

The Goals item in the left menu is highlighted. A goal is a specific number you want to reach in a given period, for example a number of followers or reach. gas then continuously shows how it is being met. To begin with it is enough to create a few of the most important goals, not everything at once.

Campaigns and tags

The Campaigns item in the left menu is highlighted. A campaign brings together the performance of ads and ordinary posts into one whole, so you follow one event or topic across several networks in a single place. For the data to belong together correctly, it pays off to tag posts and campaigns with the same tag or hashtag. If you set your tagging up carefully right from the start, later overviews will be far easier to understand.

Tourism module (only with the tourism module)

This step is shown only if your customer account has the tourism module active. The group of tourism items in the left menu is highlighted. The module contains data on visitor numbers in a region, destination or municipality and, depending on the scope of your subscription, also period comparisons, a map, reports and subject ratings. If you do not see this part in the menu, it is not active for your customer account.

You can get started

The last step appears in the middle of the screen and summarises what you have seen: your own settings, the shared settings of the customer account, linking networks, goals and campaigns. It recommends starting with linking accounts, then creating your first goals and your first campaigns with tags. The Finish button closes the tour.

The floating setup guide

After you log in, a Setup guide button with a yellow number appears in the bottom right corner. The number tells you how many items from the list are not linked yet. Clicking it expands the button into a panel:

  • At the top there is progress in the form 3 of 13 linked and a bar with percentages.
  • Below it is the Recommended step, that is one specific item the guide recommends doing next. It has a name, a short explanation and a Go to settings button. For items where you still have to log in to the platform, there is an Authorise button instead, together with an orange authorisation required label.
  • Then follows a list of all thirteen items: Meta accounts, Meta Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Google accounts, Google Analytics, Google Ads, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest accounts, Profile, Pinterest Ads and Sklik. Completed items have a green tick and a struck-through name, unfinished ones an empty circle and an Authorise or Set up link on the right.
  • Items with a padlock are locked until you complete the parent login. Facebook, Instagram and Meta Ads unlock after you connect a Meta account, Google Analytics, Google Ads and YouTube after you connect a Google account, Pinterest Profile and Pinterest Ads after you connect a Pinterest account.
  • At the bottom there is a Skip guide link.

The cross in the top right corner only collapses the panel back into the button, the guide stays available. It is closed for good only by the Skip guide link, or, at the moment when absolutely everything is linked, by the green Finish button under the message Excellent! Everything is set up.

The guide tracks the links that you created under your own user account. Profiles connected by a colleague will not be ticked off in your list, even though they work normally in the application. An overview for the whole customer account is in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts.

What happens next

After you finish or skip the tour, the dimmed layer closes, the left menu returns to its original state and the application is operated in the usual way. From that moment on the tour will not start, not after logging out and logging in again, nor on another computer.

The floating guide stays on all pages until you close it. When you come back from a page for linking services, it checks the list again on its own, so a network you have just linked is ticked off within moments.

Until you have any service linked, both the overview and the sections for individual networks stay empty. Data appears in them only after the first download from the platform, not immediately after linking.

Common problems

The tour did not start for me at all

It is shown only to the account that was created by completing registration through an invitation link. It does not start for team members invited into an existing customer account. The second possibility is that someone already finished or skipped it on this account earlier. It cannot be started again, but its full content is described above.

I skipped it by mistake on the very first step

Unfortunately you cannot go back to it, the skip link has the same effect as finishing. Use the section What the tour goes through in this article instead.

I closed the browser in the middle of the tour

The tour is considered dealt with only after you press Finish or the skip link. If you only closed it or refreshed the page, it will start again at your next login, but again from the first step. Partial progress is not saved anywhere.

The tour has stopped, the Next button does not respond

The tour waits for the element it wants to highlight to appear on the screen. Until it finds it, it stays on the current step. Wait a moment for the page to load and try Next again. If nothing changes, end the tour with the skip link and read the rest here.

The tour moved me to another page on its own

That is fine, between steps it moves to the overview, to settings, to goals and to campaigns. Once you end the tour, you can get anywhere through the left menu.

I did not see the step about the customer account in the tour

That one is shown only to administrators of the customer account. If you have the role of editor or viewer, the Customer account card in Settings is not active and the step is skipped.

The tourism module was missing from the tour

The tourism module is not active for your customer account. Ask your administrator to switch it on.

The floating Setup guide button has disappeared

It is closed by the Skip guide link or the Finish button and cannot be switched on again. You will find the same overview of what is linked at any time in Settings → Connected services.

The list always has the same thirteen items for all supported platforms. You do not have to link all of them, link only the ones you really use and close the guide with the Skip guide link.

A colleague has already linked a network, but the guide has not ticked it off

The guide shows only the links created under your user account. Before you create another link for the same profile, look in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts. There you can see the whole customer account including the Who links the account column with your colleague's email. If the profile is connected and data is coming in, there is no need to create a second link.

I want to come back to the content of the tour later

Save this article, it contains the same information the tour shows. Orientation in the interface is followed up by the article about the left menu and the top bar, and linking services by the articles in the Connecting services category.
