The user profile is where you set what concerns only you: the name your colleagues see for you in the application, and the language gas is displayed in. These settings belong to your user account, so they follow you into every customer account you have access to and apply on every device where you are logged in.
The user profile is not the same as the customer account. In the profile you change your personal settings, while Settings → Customer account manages the company or destination details, the team and the subscription. The difference is explained in detail in the article Customer account and user account.
Before you start
Every logged-in user may edit their own profile regardless of their role in the customer account, so Administrator, User and Viewer alike. You do not need any extra permission for it and the settings do not affect other team members in any way, everyone has their own.
Where to find the profile
- In the left menu, click the circle with your initials at the very bottom. It is a shortcut straight into the user profile.
- The second route goes through Settings. In the left menu choose Settings, then on the User profile card click I want to set up.
- The User profile page opens. On the left there is a list of sections: Profile, Appearance, Notifications, Report subscriptions, Graph view, Table view, Password & access, Active sessions, Privacy and your data, Customer accounts and, at the end, Sign out. On a phone there is a drop-down menu above the content instead of the list.
- Stay in the first section, Profile. It contains two settings: Full name and Language.
What you can and cannot set in the profile
The Profile section really contains only two items, name and language. gas does not keep a profile photo or a phone number for the user account, the circle with initials is composed automatically from your name. The other personal settings have their own sections in the same list on the left:
- Appearance: light or dark theme, or following the operating system.
- Notifications: what should reach you in the application and what by e-mail.
- Report subscriptions: which regular reports you want to be a recipient of.
- Graph view and Table view: how graphs and tables should be shown to you.
- Password & access: changing your password and linking Google, Meta and Apple accounts for logging in. It is described in the article Password and login methods.
- Active sessions: the devices you are logged in on.
- Privacy and your data: consents to data processing.
- Customer accounts: an overview of the customer accounts you have access to.
Changing your name
- Click into the Full name field.
- Overwrite the contents of the field. There is only one field, you type both the first name and the surname into it, for example "Petr Kolář".
- Stop typing and wait a moment. There is no Save button here, the field saves itself shortly after you finish typing.
- Watch the line below the field. First Saving… appears, then Saved once it is stored. The message disappears after a few seconds. If saving fails, a red Error while saving! appears instead.
The application takes the initials for the circle in the left menu from the full name: the first letter of the first word and the first letter of the second word. With a one-word name only one letter remains.
What happens next and where others see your name
The name is not just a label for you, team members see it in several places:
- The circle in the bottom left corner of the application: the initials from your name.
- Settings → Customer account → Users: a table of team members with the columns Full name, E-mail and Role. Only the Administrator of the customer account can open this page. It also contains the Invitation sender column, which shows the name of the person who sent the invitation for pending invitations.
- Team invitation: the e-mail sent to the invited person contains the sentence "User First name Last name (e-mail) is sending you an invitation…". So your name and address are visible in the invitation. The same applies to an invitation to subscribe to media monitoring.
- Reports: when selecting recipients, people are offered in the form "First name Last name (e-mail)". In the detail of a completed report you can see who started the generation and who the report was delivered to.
Your e-mail address also appears in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts in the Who links the account column, next to every profile or ad account you have connected to the customer account. The address is also a link, so a colleague can click it right from the table and write to you. If a profile has no live connection, the column shows the value Nobody. This whole area is described in the article Who linked the account and why I cannot see it.
A change of name takes effect immediately in the circle with initials. Colleagues will see the new name as soon as they reload the page with the list of users. The name is not changed retroactively in e-mails that have already been sent or in reports that have already been generated, those stay as they were sent.
Changing the application language
gas supports three languages: Czech, English and German. A new user account starts in Czech.
- In the Profile section find the Language option.
- Click one of the options: Čeština, English, Deutsch.
- Wait a moment, this setting also saves itself and Saving… and then Saved appears below the option.
- Once it is saved, the interface switches by itself. You do not have to sign out or close the browser.
The language is stored with your user account, not with the browser. So when you log in on another computer or phone, gas appears in the same language. The choice applies only to you, colleagues in the same customer account can have a different language set and it does not affect each other in any way.
What switching the language changes
- The labels of the whole interface: menu, buttons, page names, message texts and wizards.
- Metric names and labels in graphs, column headers in tables.
- The format of numbers and dates. Czech writes 1 234,5 and month names in Czech, for example, while English writes 1,234.5. There is no separate setting for the number format in the application, it follows the language.
- The e-mails gas sends you: alerts about an inactive connection, notifications, the weekly summary and the message about a finished report. They arrive in the language you have set in your profile.
The recipient gets a team invitation in the language set in their own profile. A person who does not have an account in gas yet receives the invitation in Czech.
What stays unchanged
- Data from the networks. Post texts, page and profile names, campaign, ad set and ad names come from Facebook, Instagram, Google Ads and other platforms exactly as they are written there. Switching the language does not translate them.
- Names you or your team entered. The name of a customer account, campaign, goal, custom measurement or report stays in its original wording.
- PDF reports already generated. A report is created in the language set in the application by the person who last saved its settings. So changing the language in your profile does not by itself change the language of the report.
Login e-mail
Your e-mail address is also your login credential, you use it together with your password to log in. It is also the address gas sends invitations, notifications and reports to.
The address cannot be changed in the application and you will not even find it in the profile. It got into gas from the invitation and it was pre-filled during registration without the option to overwrite it. If you need a different address, write through the contact form and state which address should be replaced by which.
Because the address cannot be changed in the application, there is no verification of the change either, so no confirmation e-mail to the new address.
Logging in via Google, Meta and Apple does not depend on the e-mail address. The link is tied to your account with that service, not to the address you currently have there. So if you change your e-mail at Google, logging in to gas keeps working. It also works the other way round: for login via Google, Meta or Apple to work, the account has to be linked first in the Password & access section. Matching e-mail addresses alone does not create the link. The procedure is described in the article Password and login methods.
Time zone and number format
The profile does not contain a time zone option, gas works with the time valid in the Czech Republic. On top of that, the platforms report network data according to their own settings, so the boundary of a day may differ slightly for some numbers. Differences in numbers are covered in the article The numbers differ from Facebook or Google.
The format of numbers and dates follows the chosen language, there is no separate setting for it in the application. How many decimal places are shown for values and how graphs and tables behave is set in the Graph view and Table view sections.
Common problems
I cannot see an e-mail field in the profile
It is not there. The Profile section contains only Full name and Language. You can see your address for example in the list of team members in Settings → Customer account → Users (opened by the Administrator) or in the footer of any e-mail from gas, where the address it was sent to is stated.
I want to change my login e-mail
This cannot be done in the application. Write through the contact form, state your current and requested address and the name of the customer account. Until the change is made, keep logging in with the original address.
"Error while saving!" appeared below the Full name field
The save did not go through. Try reloading the page and typing the name again, or sign out and log in again, because the error can also mean an expired session. If the message keeps appearing, please send a screenshot through the contact form.
I typed the name and closed the page right away, the change was not saved
The field saves shortly after you finish typing, not with every keystroke. If you close the page immediately, the save no longer happens. So after typing, wait until Saved appears below the field.
Colleagues still see my old name in the list of users
The table of team members loads once when the page is opened. Ask your colleague to reload the page or use the refresh button in the page header.
The circle at the bottom left shows different letters than I would expect
The initials are composed of the first letter of the first and the second word in the Full name field. If you have a title at the beginning, the letter is taken from the title. It helps to type the name without the title into the field, or to move the title to the end.
I switched the language but the application stayed in the original one
The switch only takes effect after saving. Check whether Saved appeared below the option, and if an error appeared instead, reload the page and repeat the choice. If the language does not switch even after reloading, write through the contact form.
The language is switched but post texts and campaign names stayed in Czech
That is how it should be. The labels of the application are translated, not the content gas downloaded from social networks and advertising systems. Page and profile names, campaign names and post texts stay in the language they are in on the given platform.
The report arrived in a different language than the one I have set
The report language is stored together with its settings and is taken from the language of the person who last saved the report settings. If you want the report in a different language, switch the language in your profile, open the report and save its settings again. The next generation will already run in the new language.
E-mails from gas arrive in a different language for each team member
That is correct behaviour. Every e-mail is sent in the language set by its recipient. If you want to receive e-mails in a different language, change the language in your profile.
The profile settings look different on a phone
The list of sections on the left does not fit on a phone, so there is a drop-down menu above the content instead. You select a section in it and the content below switches. The settings are the same as on a computer.
I cannot open Customer account in Settings
Only the Administrator role can open the Customer account card. It is unavailable to User and Viewer. However, you can change your own profile regardless of your role. Roles are described in the article Users and roles.
There is someone else's e-mail or the value Nobody next to a profile in Linked accounts
The Who links the account column shows the address of the person whose connection the given profile uses. Someone else's address means a colleague connected the profile, and that is fine. The value Nobody means the profile has no live connection and data will stop arriving for it. This situation is addressed in the article Who linked the account and why I cannot see it.
I want to change my password or add login via Google
Neither the password nor login via Google, Meta and Apple is set in the Profile section, but in the Password & access section in the same list on the left. It is described in detail in the article Password and login methods.
