In gas you can "unlink" in three different places, and each time it means something else. One action cancels your entire sign-in to the platform, another removes a single profile together with the data gas has collected about it, and the third simply stops showing the profile in one customer account. These three things often get mixed up, because the buttons look similar. This article tells them apart and describes what happens after each one to your data, to scheduled reports, and how the action can be undone.
None of these actions changes anything on the platform side. Your Facebook page, Instagram profile, YouTube channel or ad account will not be deleted, and their data at Meta, Google, Pinterest, TikTok or Sklik stays untouched. Only what gas sees and has stored changes.
Before you start
Unlinking happens in two different places in the settings, and it is worth knowing which one belongs to whom:
- Settings → Connected services is your personal sign-in to the platforms. It belongs to your user account, so you only see the connections you created yourself. Every signed-in user account has this section available.
- Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts is an overview of the profiles connected to the current customer account. Here you also see profiles connected by someone else on the team, including the Who links the account column with their e-mail. Only a user account with the Administrator role can get into this section. Other roles will see the message "You do not have sufficient permissions to edit the customer account." instead of the content.
Before you unlink anything, talk to the administrator of the customer account. In the Customer account section the administrator can see which profiles are linked, who linked them and whether any scheduled report depends on them. It often turns out that it is enough to unlink the profile from just one customer account and there is no need to cancel the whole connection.
Three actions and what each one does
| Action | Where you start it | What it unlinks |
|---|---|---|
| Unlinking a whole connected service | Settings → Connected services → platform, button in the account row | The entire sign-in to the platform and with it all profiles that used it, in all customer accounts |
| Deleting a single profile from a connected service | Settings → Connected services → platform → account name, button in the profile row | One profile together with the data gas collected about it, in all customer accounts |
| Unlinking a profile from a customer account | Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts | Only the display of the profile in this customer account; the connection and the collected data stay |
How to do it
Unlinking a whole connected service
This cancels your sign-in to the platform as a whole. Use it when you no longer want to work with that platform through gas at all.
- Open Settings → Connected services.
- In the left menu choose the platform, for example Meta accounts, Google accounts, Pinterest accounts, Tiktok accounts or Sklik accounts.
- In the table find the row with the account you want to unlink.
- On the right, in the Actions column, click the red crossed-out chain icon labelled Unlink account. For TikTok and Sklik there is a bin icon in the same place, for TikTok labelled Delete profile.
- A dialog opens. Read it and confirm with the button it offers.
What happens: gas loses access to the platform. For Meta and Google it also revokes the permission you granted during sign-in by itself, so you do not have to remove it manually in the platform settings. All profiles that used this connection will stop receiving new data, and that applies to all customer accounts where they are linked, not only the one you are currently in.
Deleting a single profile from a connected service
This removes one specific page, profile, channel or ad account. The rest of the connection keeps running.
- Open Settings → Connected services and choose the platform in the left menu.
- In the table click the account name. Its detail opens.
- At the top switch to the tab that matches the type of profile. For Meta these are the Facebook, Instagram and Meta Ads tabs, for Google Google Ads, Google Analytics and YouTube, for Pinterest Profile and Pinterest Ads.
- In the table find the row with the profile and click the red bin icon on the right. The label differs by profile type: Delete profile for a Facebook page, an Instagram profile, a Google Analytics property and a Pinterest profile, Delete account for the Meta Ads, Google Ads and Pinterest Ads ad accounts, Delete channel for YouTube.
- Confirm in the dialog with the Delete button.
The dialog warns you that all data will be deleted from the gas tool and that data on the platform servers will not be affected. The profile disappears from all customer accounts where it was linked.
Unlinking a profile from a customer account
This is the mildest and most often the correct choice. The profile stops being shown in one customer account, but the connection and all collected data stay untouched.
- Make sure that in the top bar you have switched to the customer account you want to remove the profile from.
- Open Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts.
- The table is grouped by network. Expand the group and find the row with the profile.
- On the right, in the Actions column, click the red crossed-out chain icon labelled Unlink account.
- Confirm the dialog with the Unlink account button.
The dialog about scheduled reports
When the profile you are unlinking appears in some scheduled report, gas opens a larger dialog instead of the usual confirmation. It offers one extra decision that is worth making consciously.
What you will see in the dialog:
- Title: "Unlink profile profile name?" for a single profile, or "Unlink account network?" for a whole connected service.
- Explanation: for a single profile "The profile is used in these scheduled reports. After unlinking it will no longer be loaded into them." For a whole service "This account will be unlinked from all connected profiles. Some of them are used in scheduled reports:"
- A list of the affected reports. For a whole connected service the reports are split by customer account, so you can see everybody the unlinking will affect, even if you are currently switched somewhere else.
- A checkbox "Remove the profile from these reports as well" (for a whole service "Remove the unlinked profiles from these reports as well"). It is ticked in advance.
- The Cancel and Unlink buttons.
The difference between the two options:
- Leave the box ticked (recommended when the profile is not coming back): gas removes the profile from those reports right away. The next issue of the report will no longer refer to it and will run without any warning.
- Untick the box: the profile stays in the report settings. The report will still be generated, but the part with this profile will be skipped. At the end of the PDF an overview called Skipped profiles is added with the profile name, the network and the reason, and the administrators of the customer account as well as the owner of the connection receive an alert. If you link the profile again later, gas generates the report once more by itself, this time complete, and sends the recipients an alert that it has been filled in. It is not counted towards your report limit a second time.
The dialog only appears when you unlink a whole connected service (except Sklik) and when you unlink a profile from a customer account. When you delete a single profile in the detail of a connected service (the Delete profile, Delete account, Delete channel buttons) and when you unlink a Sklik account, gas does not warn you about reports. Before you delete a profile this way, please check the Reports section yourself to see whether any scheduled report uses it.
What happens next
The data stays with the platform. Whichever action you choose, nothing is deleted on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok, in Google Ads, Google Analytics or in Sklik. Unlinking only concerns what gas has stored.
New data stops coming in almost immediately. The profile disappears from the overviews and pages of that network within a minute or two. If you still see it in the application for a while, refresh the page with the refresh button in its header.
Historical data is not deleted immediately. When you unlink a whole connected service and also when you delete a single profile, gas keeps what it has already collected for some time. The application even words it that way: after deleting a page you get the message "The page has been scheduled for deletion." The period is 30 days. If you restore the profile or the connection within that period, the whole history comes back together with the settings and you do not have to look anything up retroactively.
Google Analytics is the exception. Deleting a Google Analytics property happens right away, with no grace period. The application confirms it with the message "The property has been deleted." If you need it back, connect it again. gas then builds the history up from the beginning.
Unlinking a profile from a customer account is fully reversible. Nothing is deleted here, only the link between the profile and the customer account is cancelled. As soon as you link the profile again, you see the whole history immediately.
How to undo the action
- An unlinked service is restored by choosing the same platform in Settings → Connected services and signing in again to the same platform account as before. If you sign in under a different account, gas treats it as a new connection and will not attach the old data to it.
- A deleted profile is brought back by selecting it again from the list of available profiles in the detail of the connected service and connecting it.
- A profile unlinked from a customer account is brought back the same way you connected it the first time.
After restoring, check two things that do not come back on their own: whether the profile is marked as Default again in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts, if it used to be, and whether it is back in those scheduled reports you had it removed from during unlinking.
Common problems
I unlinked more or less than I wanted
I unlinked one profile and the others disappeared too
You probably unlinked the whole connected service instead of deleting the profile. You can tell by the place: if you clicked in the list of platform accounts (for example Meta accounts), it was the whole service. Deleting a single profile is done one level lower, after clicking the account name, on the Facebook, Instagram, Meta Ads and similar tabs. The solution is to sign in to that platform again under the same account; within 30 days everything comes back, including the history.
I unlinked a profile from a customer account and my colleague still sees it
That is the correct behaviour. Unlinking in the Customer account section applies only to that one customer account. If the same profile is also linked in another customer account, it keeps working there. You have to unlink it in each one separately, after switching the customer account in the top bar.
I want to remove a profile only for one client, not completely
Use Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts. That action only cancels the display in the given customer account, and neither the data nor the connection is deleted.
I want to make sure gas no longer knows anything about my platform account
Unlink the whole connected service. For Meta and Google gas revokes the permission itself. To be sure, you can also check it in the security settings on the platform side, where there is usually a list of connected applications.
I confirmed the unlinking by mistake and do not know how long I have to fix it
Count on 30 days from the unlinking. Within this period, signing in again to the same platform account (or connecting the profile again) also brings back the history. Once the period is over, do not rely on the history coming back and write through the contact form as soon as possible instead.
I cannot see the section or the button I need
I cannot see the Customer account section at all
Only the Administrator role has this part of the settings available. Ask the administrator of the customer account to unlink the profile for you, or to change your role.
I cannot see my account in Connected services, but the profile is in gas
The connection was not created by your user account, but by someone else on the team. In Settings → Connected services you only see your own connections. You can find out who connected the profile in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts in the Who links the account column, where their e-mail is shown as a link you can write to directly. Only the owner of the connection can unlink it.
The Who links the account column shows Nobody and the row is red
The profile is still linked to the customer account, but there is no live connection behind it. Typically because the person who created it unlinked or deleted it, or because the colleague who connected it no longer works at the company. Such a profile will not receive any data. The solution is not to unlink it and create it again: an active colleague who has access to it on the platform connects the profile again and, when selecting it, chooses to take ownership of the profile. That takes it over under their connection, and the history and settings are preserved.
I cannot see the unlink button in the table
On a phone the column with actions is hidden. Open the same page on a computer, or in the mobile view tap the row and use the action from the item detail.
Unlinking and scheduled reports
My reports arrive without one part
When unlinking you unticked the "Remove the profile from these reports as well" box, so the profile stayed in the report settings. The report is generated, but its part with this profile is skipped and at the end of the PDF there is a Skipped profiles overview. Either connect the profile again (the report will then be regenerated complete by itself), or remove the profile from the report sections manually in the Reports section.
After I unlinked the last profile, the report did not arrive at all
When no content part is left in the report after the profiles are skipped, gas does not send out an empty PDF and the report run ends with an error and an explanation. Connect the profile back, or edit the report so that it contains at least one part with an available profile.
