Notification settings

gas alerts you to important events in two ways: in the app under the bell icon in the top right corner, and by email to the address you use to log in. On the Notifications page you decide separately for each group of alerts which of these ways you want to use, whether both, or neither. This comes in handy when gas sends you more emails than you need, and also the other way round, when you are missing something important.

Before you start

Notification settings belong to your user account, not to the customer account. Two things follow from that, and it is good to know them in advance:

  • Your choice has no effect on your colleagues. Every team member sets notifications for themselves, nobody sees or changes anyone else's settings.
  • The choice applies in all customer accounts you have access to. You cannot set emails on for one customer account and off for another.

Emails are always sent to the address you use to log in to gas.

How to do it

  1. Open Settings in the left menu.
  2. On the User profile card, click I want to set up.
  3. Choose Notifications in the menu on the left. On a phone there is a drop-down list above the page content instead of this menu.
  4. For each group, tick In-app, Email, both options, or leave them empty.
  5. The change is saved immediately after you tick or untick the box. There is no save button on the page.

The All notifications switch at the very top turns everything on or off at once. It is on only when you really have all options in all groups turned on. As soon as you turn one option off, the switch goes off, but your other choices stay unchanged.

Notification groups and what belongs in them

Account linking

In-app only. It alerts you when social profiles and ad accounts are linked, unlinked or renamed, that is, to changes someone from the team made in the customer account. This group is not sent by email, so it has no Email checkbox.

Integration problems

In-app and by email. This covers errors while downloading data, expired or revoked access to a linked account, and situations where the platform stopped providing data. The same group also includes the alert that a report was generated without one of the profiles because gas had no access to it.

We recommend leaving this group turned on. Until you solve the linking problem, the numbers for the affected profile stop updating and the report comes out incomplete. Without an alert you only find out when you notice the missing data.

Reports

In-app and by email. The alert that report generation has finished, with a link to download it.

Weekly summary

Email only. An overview of notifications you have not read yet. Details are in a separate section below.

News and tips in the app

In-app and by email. Short messages about what is new in gas and how to make better use of a particular feature. We send them at most once a month.

Commercial messages

Email only. Promotions and commercial offers for related products and services. These emails are not sent by the application itself but by the external mailing service SmartEmailing. Unticking the box is passed on to it during the regular synchronisation that runs once a day, so a mailing that is already prepared may still reach you. It works the other way round too: if you unsubscribe using the link in such an email, gas picks the unsubscribe up by itself and unticks the box in the settings.

A turned-off option means the alert is never created at all. If you turn the group on later, the events that happened in the meantime will not appear retroactively, neither in the list under the bell nor by email.

Weekly summary

The weekly summary is the only email that does not arrive right after an event, instead it sums up what you missed. These rules apply to it:

  • It arrives on Monday morning, the subject contains the text Notification overview and the number of items in brackets.
  • It contains notifications you have not read yet and that gas also sent you by email. Each one shows the title, the text and the date. At most the 50 most recent ones are listed.
  • Notifications you have already read, or that resolved themselves (for example because you reconnected an account), do not make it into the summary.
  • If you have nothing unread, the summary is not sent at all. An empty email is never sent.
  • You receive the summary at most once every seven days. Even if more events pile up, a second email will not arrive in the same week.
  • In the footer of the summary there is an Unsubscribe from these emails link. It opens the Email subscription management page, where you confirm the unsubscribe with the Unsubscribe button. It is the same as unticking Email for the Weekly summary group, only without logging in to the app. If you change your mind, open the same link again and use Resubscribe, or tick the box back in the settings.

Because the summary draws only on notifications sent by email, the other groups affect it too. If you untick Email for the Integration problems and Reports groups, the summary will have nothing to draw on and will stop arriving, even though you have it turned on.

How this relates to report subscriptions

Finished reports are sent out according to a different setting, which you find in Settings → User profileReport subscriptions. There is a table of automatic reports you are subscribed to, with the customer account, the report name and its frequency. Each row has a bell icon that lets you unsubscribe from the subscription or subscribe again. This is described in detail in the article Report delivery and recipients.

The two settings are related as follows:

  • Unsubscribing in Report subscriptions concerns one specific report. Other reports keep coming to you.
  • Unticking Email for the Reports group stops emails with finished reports completely, in all customer accounts and for all reports, including those you are subscribed to in Report subscriptions.
  • Unticking In-app for the Reports group hides the alert about a finished report under the bell. It has no effect on the email delivery of the report.

What happens next

The change takes effect with the first next event it concerns. Emails that have already been sent do not come back and notifications already created in the app do not disappear, you delete them or mark them as read in the list under the bell. Working with the notification list is described in the article In-app notifications.

If saving fails, for example because of a connection outage, gas shows a red alert about a saving error and the box returns to its original state. In that case tick the option again.

You can also check your settings from an email at any time: the footer of every notification you get from gas has a link to the notification settings.

Common problems

I get nothing at all, neither in the app nor by email

Most often the All notifications switch is off or the options for individual groups are unticked. Open Settings → User profile → Notifications and turn on the switch at the top, this turns on all groups and both channels at once. Then turn off just what you really do not want to receive.

I see notifications in the app, but no email arrives

You only have In-app ticked for that group. Also check whether the group sends email at all: Account linking exists only in the app and has no Email checkbox. If Email is ticked and the email still does not arrive, look in your junk mail folder.

Emails from gas end up in spam

Your mail service classified them as unsolicited. Mark such an email as "not spam" and add the sender from the gas-online.cz domain to your trusted contacts, or create a rule for it in your inbox. In a company mailbox the filter may be set by your IT administrator, in which case you need to ask them. If that does not help, write to us through the contact form.

A colleague receives alerts that I do not

There are two possible causes. First: notification settings are personal, your colleague has different options ticked than you. Second: some alerts are by their nature sent only to the people they concern. For example, the message that a report came out without one of the profiles goes to the administrators of the customer account and to the person who linked that profile. If such information should reach you too, ask the customer account administrator for the Administrator role, or have specific messages forwarded to you.

I want to keep only the most important things

  1. Open Settings → User profile → Notifications.
  2. Turn off the All notifications switch, this unticks everything.
  3. For the Integration problems group, tick both In-app and Email.
  4. For the Reports group, tick according to whether you want to know about finished reports.
  5. Leave the other groups empty.

I turned a group back on, but the missed events did not appear

An alert that was turned off at the time of the event was never created and is not added retroactively. Check the current state of your links in Settings → Customer account → Linked accounts, where you can see for each profile whether it is fine or needs to be reconnected.

The weekly summary did not arrive

There can be several reasons: you have no unread notification, you received a summary in the last seven days, you have Email unticked for the Weekly summary group, or you have emails turned off for the groups the summary draws on. The summary lists only those notifications that gas also sends you by email.

The summary is missing notifications that I see under the bell

The summary lists only unread notifications that also reached you by email. The Account linking group is not sent by email, so it never makes it into the summary. Items you have already read do not make it in either, nor do those that resolved themselves in the meantime.

I get too many summaries

gas never sends more than one summary every seven days, this safeguard is fixed and cannot be changed. If even one email a week feels like too much, untick the Email box for the Weekly summary group, or use the Unsubscribe from these emails link in the footer of the summary. The overview of unread notifications stays available in the app under the bell.

A report did not arrive by email even though I am subscribed to it

Check whether you have Email ticked for the Reports group. This option takes precedence over the subscription: when it is unticked, the email with the report will not arrive even for a report you are subscribed to. If it is ticked, also look in Settings → User profile → Report subscriptions to see whether the subscription for that report is turned off.

Commercial messages keep coming even though I have the box unticked

These emails are sent by an external service, to which your choice is passed on once a day. A mailing that was already prepared may therefore still arrive. You can also unsubscribe using the link in the footer of such an email, which takes effect immediately. If they keep coming after several days, write to us through the contact form.

Emails go to an address I no longer use

Notifications are sent to the email you use to log in to gas. You cannot change this address in the app yourself, write to us through the contact form and we will arrange the change.

I get messages about a customer account I do not follow

Notification settings apply across all customer accounts you have access to, and you can only turn off a whole group, not an individual customer account. If you no longer need access to that customer account, ask its administrator to remove it. That ends the alerts from this account.

The setting reverted after I ticked it

The option is saved to the server immediately, and if the connection drops the save fails. Check your internet connection, reload the page and tick the box once more. If the error repeats, write to us through the contact form.
